Before joining staff of The Trust for Public Land, Bill spent ten years as a freelance writer. In addition to his work for Land&People, his more than 200 essays, profiles, features, travel pieces, and short content appeared in Sierra, Image, Pacific Discovery, Motorland, Via, San Francisco Focus, Woman’s Day, Harrowsmith Country Life, Parenting, Hippocrates, California Lawyer, California Medicine, Healthcare Business Month, California Living, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner, The Denver Post, and the Chicago Tribune. This experience taught him that strong narrative, preferably about people, should be at the heart of any piece of writing.
